Nobody knew who brought the tunes, where or how the music arrived, or by which block it was as if one of us had divined each new release into being. There a knowing congregation hung, lining Blockias one to one, infrared beaming new albums to one another. Life’s joy was reduced to furtive meetings behind the local chapel after school. I’ve seen so much praise levied at tracks like 4th Dimension and Kids See Ghosts (which are both awesome songs in their own right) but in my mind, Ye & Cudi saved the best for last on this record.“Pre-Kardashian Kanye gave us a role-model that empathised and vouched for us in the everyday fight” Overrated/Underrated?: Underrated in my eyes. I think it’s the inspiring & uplifting nature of the chorus that does it. The only real wish I could have had for this song was for it to go on longer because it’s just so wonderful.Įmotions: Just total pleasure and awe, even with it being such a dark song in nature. What I Would Have Changed: Almost nothing.
The best part of it all has to be the incredible synth part that finally ends the track, and the album as a whole. Kanye’s vocal here is the best singing I’ve heard him do in what feels like forever, and along with Cudi & Mr Hudson harmonizing along with it it just clicks perfectly. The outro on Cudi Montage is, in all likelihood, my favorite of them all. The Alice Johnson reference at the end leading into his closing vocals is just icing on the cake.įavorite Musical Moment: One of my favorite parts about this album was how songs started and how they ended: nearly every intro and outro felt special and left you totally engaged for the duration of the track and eager for what was coming next by the end. It seems so rare nowadays to hear him rap through the perspective of someone other than himself which just adds to the special feeling this verse gives off for me. This has to be considered one of his best post-MBDTF verses. All of the components here meld beautifully to create a true masterpiece.įavorite Lyrical Moment: I’m just gonna go out on a limb and say Kanye’s entire verse. Over a haunting Kurt Cobain sample Cudi meditates on having the weight of the world on his shoulders while Kanye delivers an amazing verse focusing on gun violence.
